Building Leaders at the Hurricane Symposium
A group of enthusiastic sixth-grade leaders from Independence Middle School spent the week growing their confidence, developing new skills, and learning alongside peers from across Northeast Ohio at the Brooklyn City Schools Hurricane Leadership Conference.
The event brought together student leaders from several districts for a day of collaboration, inspiration, and hands-on activities designed to strengthen communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills. Independence students eagerly embraced each challenge.

Independence Middle School students made an outstanding impression — sharing ideas, embracing new perspectives, and demonstrating the values of respect, responsibility, and school pride throughout the conference. They are excited to bring their new strategies and insights back to the classroom and continue leading as role models within the Independence community.
